Inflammation and Recovery Time

Muscle pain is a common problem among us but did you know that with diet you can reduce muscle pain and increase recovery time.

Meaning you are less injured and can train harder and often have more energy than you normally would through diet.

Now most people would assume this is a protein rich diet but you are wrong. The reason a diet high in animal protein can also cause inflammatory disease which actually increases the time you take to heal and recover from a work out or injury.

Inflammation is a natural and necessary occurrence in our bodies, it occurs with sickness and damage. The inflammatory cycle should be short however some factors increase inflammatory length which starts to reduce function and can lead to many other conditions occurring.

  • Reoccurring injury (give yourself enough time to recover after a gym session)

A high antioxidant diet will allow you to recover quicker and stronger than before. The highest antioxidant diet is a wholefood plant based diet.

What is a whole food plant based diet?

Most people assume vegan is the same as a whole food plant based diet while this is mostly right it is not exclusively true –

Why is this vegans can eat Oreos and coconut ice cream and still remain vegan where as whole food plant based diet doesn’t eat much processed food.

Generally most people are vegan because of animal rights or environmental protection. While plant based is based solely on health and its benefits for you. On a personal note I think all of the above are correct.

Most of the diet consists of things like home made baked beans or chia seed pudding that you’ve made yourself. The reason for this is that when you make food for yourself you add less sugar salt or preservatives than companies because you aren’t trying to maximise profit or extend shelf life, you are just feeding yourself and doing what’s best for your health with maybe a touch for flavour.

A whole food plant based is eating food with no or less packaging that you’ve made yourself or by a trusted source. Some of the vegan prepackaged food is good for you however a lot of it has preservatives which are not the most sustainable food. Plant based isn’t all bland food there are many amazing plant based recipes which are full of taste and health.
