Insomnia (sleeplessness) and Weight Gain

Insomnia and weight gain:  lack of sleep has shown in many studies to increase weight gain there has also been a link between central adiposity (fat around the tummy) metabolic syndromes and sleep deficiency.

The reason for this is sleep deficiency causes a decrease in our appetite suppressant hormone leptin which means you have an increased hunger and decreased hunger stopping hormones.

Lack of sleep also increases the cravings for high sugar and fatty foods which of course adds to weight gain.

Weight gain, insomnia and depression: Insomnia causes changes in our mood and adds depressive like feelings. This causes us to crave starchy of very sweet food these food help to increase our happy hormones read more here and of course again this doesn’t help with weight gain since these foods are often the cause of weight gain.
